Diamond Spire® Gardenia

Diamond Spire® Gardenia Features Upright Growth, Evergreen Foliage, and Repeat Blooming

A Modern, Space-Saving Twist on a Southern Classic

Flowering Vertical Beauty and Delightful Fragrance

The Diamond Spire® Gardenia is an efficient take on a Southern staple. Its signature upright, columnar shape and glossy evergreen foliage make it an exceptional choice for smaller garden spaces, narrow borders, or even containers. Adorned with white blooms that release a sweet fragrance from late spring through fall, this compact gardenia brings plenty of charm to any landscape.

The Upright Gardenia Your Landscape Needs

This gardenia’s narrow, columnar form reaches about 3 to 4 feet tall and only 2 feet wide, making it ideal for confined planting areas or vertical interest in garden beds. Its dark green, glossy evergreen leaves provide year-round appeal, while its fragrant white blossoms emerge repeatedly from late spring all the way through fall. The contrast between the pure white flowers and rich deep green foliage adds an elegant touch to patios, entryways, and walkways. Hardy in USDA Zones 7 through 10, the Diamond Spire® Gardenia performs exceptionally in southern & coastal climates.

This vertical Gardenia was introduced by the Southern Living Plant Collection to offer gardeners a more space-conscious version of the beloved traditional gardenia. While classic varieties often spread wide and require frequent pruning, this hybrid was carefully selected for its narrow, spire-like form and repeat-blooming performance.

• Narrow, spire like growth habit

• Thrives in hardiness zones 7-10

• Compact mature size of 3-4 feet tall and 2 feet wide

• Fragrant, repeat blooming white flowers

Diamond Spire® Gardenia Care

Diamond Spire® Gardenia thrives in areas with full sun to partial shade, preferring well-drained soil that remains evenly moist but not soggy. Regular watering is important during the first year, but once mature, it requires only moderate care. Apply a layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Feeding with an acid-forming fertilizer in spring encourages lush foliage and prolific blooms. Minimal pruning is needed; simply trim lightly after flowering to maintain its signature upright shape.
